Patterson Lecture SeriesThe Annual Patterson Transportation Lecture is named for William A. "Pat" Patterson, former president and CEO of United Airlines, lifetime trustee of Northwestern University, and co-founder of the Transportation Center. For more than 25 years, the annual Patterson Lecture Series has been a high point in the year of the Transportation Center. The Lecture Series has featured industry leaders from Alfred Kahn to Herb Kelleher speaking on the most relevant and impacting transportation issues of the day. The 2009 Annual Patterson Transportation Lecture “Focus Transportation: Humanitarian Relief Through Better Technology” was delivered on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 by Governor Scott McCallum, President and CEO of Aidmatrix Foundation, Inc., the leading world organization using advanced supply chain technologies to distribute humanitarian relief aid to the world community. By combining proven supply chain management and internet technology with collaborative partnerships from the business and nonprofit sectors, Aidmatrix creates visibility to supply and demand information, better decision support capabilities, more collaboration and an open forum for mobilizing and distributing needed aid quickly, ultimately linking aid with need worldwide. Gov. McCallum has negotiated arrangements with NATO and over 40 U.S. governors to have Aidmatrix represent their crisis supply needs and on-going demands for aid. They are the designated technical agency for FEMA. This effort represents a timely success story for how efficient and effective technology can be used for social good.
