NUTC Sandhouse: "Life is Hard and the Train is Easy, along the South Shore Line" - Michael Noland, NICTD

A Special Brown Bag Luncheon Meeting of the NUTC Sandhouse Rail Group.
The speakers will discuss rail service on the South Shore Line and the possible impact on the economic development of The Calumet Region.

* Michael Noland, General Manager, NICTD – Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District

* Donald Orseno, Executive Director, METRA

NICTD is looking at significant strategic advances including reducing travel time on the historic railroad between South Bend and Chicago and a new railroad to serve Hammond, Munster and Dyer. A major project is double-tracking the railroad between Gary and Michigan City. Working in concert with Metra, the strategic needs of the Metra Electric from Kensington North are being studied. A major question is “what role can the railroad play in the economic development of the Calumet Region?” This will be a presentation about the issue as well as an opportunity for those present to participate in the conversation.
