BNSF Railway named Matt Igoe, executive vice president & chief operations officer, effective Jan. 1, 2021. He will lead the entire operations organization after previously having held the position of vice president, Transportation since July 2017. Matt also served as vice president, Service Design and Performance, since May 2016. Following his career as an officer in the U.S. Army, Matt joined BNSF in 1998 as a management trainee. He has worked in a variety of positions with increasing responsibility within the Marketing and Transportation organizations. Matt served as general manager for the Chicago Division from May 2010 until October 2012, when he was promoted to general superintendent, Transportation. Matt was promoted to the position of regional vice president for the Central Region in February 2013.

Farrukh Bezar, a transportation and logistics industry strategist and analyst for more than 25 years, was named Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of CSX in May 2019. Prior to joining CSX, Bezar was managing partner at Lynwood Partners, a transportation and logistics advisory firm he founded in 2017. Bezar’s previous executive experience includes senior leadership roles within the transportation and logistics functions at Clarendon, Booz Allen Hamilton, and A.T. Kearney. He also previously held sales and marketing positions at the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and served as a financial analyst with Chase Manhattan Bank. Bezar holds an MBA in management, marketing and transportation from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science, also from Northwestern.

Prior to this, he was the senior vice president of strategic marketing for USF Corporation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Supply-Chain Innovation Network of Chicago, a new organization emerging out of World Business Chicago’s Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs. Waggoner holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from San Diego State University.

Jeffrey Tallman

Jeff began his career at Federal Express in 1988 in Phoenix, Arizona. His career path has included a variety of positions including Courier, Operations Manager and Senior Manager. His managing Director appointments included many Texas customer and airport locations as well as the Regional Hub in Ft. Worth, TX. In 2019, Jeff was promoted to the position of Vice President of the FedEx World Hub in Memphis, TN. In this role, Jeff provided leadership and oversight to more than 7000 employees working nightly to arrive and depart 160 aircraft, and sortation of up to one million packages in a single shift. In August of 2021, Jeff brought his operational experience and analytical skills into his current position, Vice President of Operations Planning and Engineering. Jeff is now leading a group of 450 engineers, managers and directors that provide forecasting, planning and operational guidance to field operators across our network.

Jeff joined American Backhaulers in 1984, fresh out of the University of Michigan with an undergrad degree in Economics. He helped grow the business by focusing on customer interactions and the sales force, training, and designing its ground-breaking technology. When ABH was sold to CH Robinson, Jeff spent a year helping to integrate the businesses and working to adapt the ABH system to the needs of the global company, and then retired. During his retirement, Jeff completed an MBA at Michigan as well as a Masters of Engineering in Logistics at MIT. In 2006, he and his wife Marianne, who created the methods of recruiting and training and focus on culture that have been copied by many in the industry, co-founded Coyote Logistics, which he led through its acquisition by UPS in 2015, after which he spent several years working with the broader UPS group on automation and advanced technology.

Jamie Peters

Jamie Peters was appointed vice president intermodal excellence in November 2022. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the evolution and execution of intermodal strategy, product design, and operations. Peters most recently served as assistant vice president corporate strategy, working with the company’s senior leadership team to design and execute strategies to meet the company’s long-term goals. After joining the company in 2005, Peters held various positions in Marketing & Sales, primarily in the energy and agricultural markets. She served as a member of the leadership team at Union Pacific’s logistics subsidiary, Loup. While at Loup, Peters had P&L management over a food-grade cold storage and transportation platform. She also led various teams responsible for carrier sourcing, drayage operations, brand development, administration and technology. Peters graduated from Creighton University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She and her husband, James, have three children.

Prior to joining United in 2015, Jason was the CIO for SIRVA, a worldwide relocation and logistics company. Prior to that, he spent 16 years at General Electric, including CIO of GE Consumer and Industrial Europe based in Budapest, and CIO of GE Healthcare Global Supply Chain. Jason has a BS from University of Missouri and an MBA from University of Illinois. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

Toby Enqvist is the global chief operations officer for United. Toby has been in the airline industry for over 25 years — joining Continental in 1996. During his time at Continental and United Airlines, he has held various leadership positions within operations and finance. Prior to his current role, Toby was executive vice president and chief customer officer where he created innovative solutions to improve our customers’ journey while providing our front-line employees the tools, policies and processes needed to succeed at their jobs. Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Toby moved to the U.S. to attend Ouachita Baptist University on a tennis scholarship, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He received his Master’s of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He is a member of the Northwestern University Business Advisory Council. He is married and has a daughter.

Ankit Gupta

Ankit Gupta is United’s senior vice president and chief air operations officer overseeing Flight Operations, Inflight, Network Operations Center, and Operations Analytics. Ankit’s focus is to bring greater operational integrity between the different operating teams and execute on the United Next (growth) plan within the new operational environment. Prior to this role, Ankit served as senior vice president of domestic planning and United Express where he was responsible for the operation and strategy of the United Express network in addition to leading the domestic planning team. Before joining United, Ankit was the managing director of commercial and fleet strategy at American Airlines. His previous experience included roles in network planning, finance, fleet planning, and cargo revenue management. Ankit received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Punjab Engineering College at Punjab University in Chandigarh, India, and his MBA from Vanderbilt University.

As President of United Cargo, Krems is responsible for all aspects of operations, customer service, sales and marketing activity, revenue management, product quality and technology solutions. Prior to joining United, Krems was VP Americas for Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo. There, he handled company operations, customer service and sales for North America, South America, Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. Krems joined United in 2014 after a 27-year career at KLM Cargo. At KLM, he served in a number of leadership roles including VP Asia and VP Europe, Africa & the Middle East.
