Operations Research Positions with FedEx Express

Vehicle Route Planning: Design, develop, and implement software models to optimize the FedEx Express local pickup and delivery routes using Operations Research methods including mixed-integer programming and heuristic algorithms. Extend the modeling framework to encompass geographical information systems (GIS), VRPTW, TSP and TSPTW models. Research and apply cutting-edge techniques to improve model performance and accuracy.
Relevant Skills: C, C++, Java, ILOG CPLEX, ILOG OPL Studio, web development (JavaScript, Perl/CGI, etc.), UNIX, software engineering principles, mixed-integer programming techniques.

Manpower Scheduling: Research and develop Mathematical Programming based approaches to optimize the weekly manpower scheduling problem at Fedex stations. Extend the modeling framework to encompass other FedEx operations such as major sorting hubs and airport ramps.
Relevant Skills: C, C++, Java, ILOG CPLEX, Web development, UNIX, software engineering principles.

Forecasting: Assume responsibility for the creation, management, and maintenance of a portion of our existing forecast process. Design, develop, and implement forecast program and process improvements. Extend and expand this process to meet internal customer needs and requests. Research and resolve issues involved in the planning process and management issues as needed.
Relevant Skills: Knowledge of forecasting and statistical techniques such as classical decomposition, double exponential smoothing, regression, and Anova. Proficiency in C++, PL/1, SAS, and either UNIX or MVS.

Network Design and Analysis: Design and develop integrated aircraft, truck, and hub networks to identify and quantify future network capacity requirements by utilizing and applying optimization based tools. Analyze and evaluate alternative aircraft and system form options and quantify the financial impact of these alternatives. Utilize quantitative analysis and modeling skills to facilitate improvements to our long range planning process.
Relevant Skills: Knowledge of network planning and design utilizing optimization based tools. Quantitative analysis skills with financial or economic aptitude. C, C++, SAS, CPLEX, UNIX and Windows.

Network Optimization: Design, develop, and implement software models optimizing the FedEx Express linehaul network using mixed-integer programming and other Operations Research methods. Extend the modeling framework to encompass broader geographies and planning timeframes in a team setting. Research and apply cutting-edge techniques to improve model performance and accuracy.
Relevant Skills: C, C++, Java, ILOG CPLEX, ILOG OPL Studio, web development (JavaScript, Perl/CGI, etc.), UNIX, software engineering principles, mixed-integer programming techniques.
