Position

Associate, Chicago Direct Venture Investment Team

Reports to

Jeff Diehl

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position will be venture capital deal sourcing. This includes building processes and systems for sourcing and tracking new venture capital deals.  The Associate will work with one ASP’s venture capital partners to develop an automated system for building and sustaining a pipeline of potential technology and life sciences venture investments for the partnership.  The primary duties will include the following activities:

  1. Build a process for regularly sourcing, screening and teeing up new venture deal opportunities for direct team partners by leveraging ASP venture capital relationships and databases.
  2. Assist with deal sourcing through alternative channels such as investment brokers, industry conferences and analysis, and industry databases.
  3. Attend weekly venture capital partnership meetings where new venture deals and current venture portfolio companies are discussed/debated and where management teams of prospective new venture deals present to the partnership for approval.
  4. As time permits, assist partners with due diligence on active deals, including industry analysis, financial modeling, and competitive analysis.

 

Specifications

  • Candidate must have solid undergraduate credentials and 2-3 years of experience at top-tier consulting or banking firm
  • ASP Associate position will be a 2-3 year pre-MBA program
  • Based in Chicago; minimal travel
  • Development experience will include:
    • Learning venture capital investment process
    • Attending weekly venture capital partner meetings
    • Attending in-office company presentations on broader private equity topics
