The Transportation Library was founded in 1958 to support the Transportation Center's curricula and research programs. Containing close to 500,000 items, the Northwestern University Transportation Library is one of the largest transportation information centers in the world, encompassing information on all transportation modalities, including air, rail, highway, pipeline, water, urban transport and logistics. It also includes a significant collection on law enforcement materials, 18th-21st century transportation companies’ annual reports and its paper collection of environmental impact statements is one of the most complete in the world.
The Transportation Library’s staff produces TRANweb, a web-based periodical index of transportation and law enforcement articles and conference proceedings. Researchers from around the world, in the fields of transportation, law enforcement, and environmental impact assessment are encouraged to use the Transportation Library in accordance with its policies and procedures.
The Library’s collections are available to the general public Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM and it provides reference assistance via email, telephone or in-person (appointments highly encouraged.)
